Land Drainage & Water Management
Land Drainage & Water Management
A boggy wet field or garden will often have underlying issues. Many areas across the south have a clay base meaning that drainage in winter is rarely swift unless land drains or ditches are installed and free running.
Land drains are easily installed and highly effective so long as the water has an exit to lower lying ground, ponds, ditches or catchment basin. On clay ground, soakaways are often ineffective so water is diverted to ditches, sometimes with weirs (dams) built to stem the flow of water.
A traditional lawn or wildflower meadow can take time and skill to create and nurture, but in principle couldn’t be easier to manage.
Many grasses and wildflowers dislike waterlogged or boggy conditions (often indicated by thick leaved 'sedge' plants growing), preferring free-draining soil.
Grasses and wildflowers can exhibit specific signs of stress such as wilting or leaf discolouration through the poor take up of nutrients and oxygen. This is also when invasive weeds can take hold.
We are equipped with the knowledge and ability to rectify these issues and whilst doing so, create a much improved environment for stronger, healthier plants.
